Charlotte FC 1-1 Chelsea Jul 20, 2022 Game Analysis

chelsea f.c. vs charlotte fc timeline

An electrical storm rolled over the Bank of America Stadium before the players had run out to warm up, and the few fans already inside were told to move into the undercover areas for shelter. Well, it was technically a defeat in the end for Chelsea, but there were some positives to take from the match... Despite the encouraging signs from Sterling, the rest of the team was nowhere near his level. The lack of quality in the midfield was particularly obvious, and the role that Jorginho has was emphasized as the midfield could not cope without his presence. Ampadu could not play the defensive aspects of the position well, and there was little-to-no chemistry and link up play between he and Gallagher. The lack of midfield cohesion was painfully obvious in real time, and it allowed Charlotte to assert itself into the match and control the second half.

These accomplishments serve as a testament to their determination, ambition, and unwavering commitment to the beautiful game. Stay tuned as we delve deeper into the timeline of events leading up to the highly anticipated clash between Charlotte FC and Chelsea FC. Charlotte FC was held scoreless until stoppage time in the Second Half when a handball inside the box lead to the hometown team being awarded a penalty kick. Chelsea took the lead in the First Half with a strike from Christian Pulisic, a U.S. In the 30th minute, a shot from Michy Batshuayi deflected off a Charlotte FC defender into Pulisic's feet. He quickly took the ball and squared it away into the net to give his team the advantage.

Charlotte win!

Charlotte fans were ecstatic and celebrated the biggest win for their club, although it functionally means nothing. Most of the players comprising the second half changes were players who were somewhat or outright competing to prove their worth to the manager and make their role in the squad established. They mostly failed to do so and likely suggested that they may not be quite ready to take the next step up based solely on the 45-minute input in Charlotte. This should be caveated by stating that the heavy rotation Tuchel employed for the second half may have been too many changes at the same time.

Ahead of Wednesday's match, WCNC Charlotte sports reporter Ashley Stroehlein sat down with goalie Kristijan Kahlina for a 1-on-1 interview. He talked about how he and the team work together, adapting to life in the United States, and how the black and blue's fans have opened their arms to him. Last week, Charlotte FC was stung with a 3-2 loss to Inter Miami FC in their second-ever meeting. Charlotte started that match strong, but Miami hit the jets toward the end of stoppage time to pull ahead. In Charlotte FC’s inaugural season in the MLS, the club is still in the hunt for a playoff spot and has a huge match against Toronto on Saturday.

Edouard Mendy was given his first match action of pre-season as part of the starting line-up and Pulisic, in his homeland, was also in the 11 that began the game. Only Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech were in the first-half side for both the Club America game at the weekend and this one. An equaliser from the penalty spot in the last seconds of open play, followed by a shoot-out that did not go the Blues way, denied us what looked set to be a second win of our USA-based pre-season.

Charlotte FC vs Chelsea highlights: Late Rios penalty cancels out early Pulisic opener

The atmosphere for the match was impressive with a healthy majority of the 75,412-person capacity at Bank of America Stadium filled with fans. There were, however, a massive amount of Chelsea fans and the crowd was fairly split between the two supporters’ groups. Lattanzio also said that he has not ruled anyone out for the match, meaning everyone is theoretically available. It's likely a chance for young players like Ben Bender, George Marks, Quinn McNeill, and Christian Makoun who are fighting for consistent places to earn future playing time.

MOBILE TICKETS

Both the club website and the 5th Stand app can be accessed using a range of devices, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets. Charlotte will be the more match fit of the two sides at the Bank of America Stadium as it is just past the halfway point in the MLS season, with Thursday’s hosts mid-table in the Eastern Conference. After a slow start to the transfer window at Stamford Bridge, things are really heating up in the first summer of Todd Boehly’s ownership and it looks as though the German coach will be backed significantly. Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States continues on Thursday as they take on Charlotte FC at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, South Carolina.

Know Before You Go: Charlotte FC vs. Chelsea FC 7/20 at 7:30PM

It's a very strong starting XI for the hosts, with former Leicester City stalwart Christian Fuchs leading the way at full-back. Designated Player Karol Swiderski begins up front, supported by young winger Yordy Reina. The only regulars not to appear from the opening whistle are Polish international Kamil Jozwiak, replaced by McKinzie Gaines on the right wing, and English center-back Anton Walkes, who is replaced by Jan Sobocinksi. It's that man Christian Pulisic with the game's only goal, but the scoreline doesn't quite accurately reflect the play on the field. It was a very even first half that saw Charlotte show quality organization against some of the world's best players. For a short period before the goal, Charlotte actually looked the more likely team to score.

Thunderbolts and lightning

NEW YORK (AP) — Alonso Martínez scored in the third minute of second-half stoppage time and New York City FC rallied to beat Charlotte FC 2-1 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. For the time being, Tuchel will have to make do with the players he has out with him in America and they’ll get another run out in the second of three games stateside on Thursday. Charlotte FC, the newest addition to Major League Soccer (MLS), was established in December 2019, making waves in the soccer world.

Still, the spread is just 1.5 goals, indicating that while many expect Chelsea to emerge victoriously, there is respect for the fight Charlotte are expected to put up. In contrast, Inter Miami was a 2.5 goal underdog against Barcelona before losing by six. In the United States, the match can be streamed on ESPN's exclusive streaming service ESPN+ which requires a subscription.

But the momentum shifted when defender Trevoh Chalobah handled a shot from Charlotte's Brian Romero in added time for a penalty, before Daniel Rios slotted past Edouard Mendy. A ball over the top gave Michy another chance to shoot soon after but after the Belgian’s run took him inside the centre-back, the highly rated Kristijan Kahlina made a good save. Charlotte could have done better with an opportunity of their own before the interval. Conor Gallagher shoots across goal and the ball nearly falls to Raheem Sterling at the far post.

“We were good for 80 meters of the pitch, but were not good enough in the final 20 meters,” said Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel after the match. “Today is on us, they showed courage and belief, man-marking us one-on-one. Whenever you give the stadium belief like we did anything can happen”With the final kick of the game, 16-year-old Charlotte FC academy product Brian Romero won a penalty via a Trevoh Chalobah handball. That saw Daniel Rios strike from the spot and level the scoreline at 1-1.

Ontario Beach Park Charlotte Beach Lake Ontario Park Guide

charlotte rochester ny

The Genesee River Trail was  designated as a national recreation trail in 2006 in its southern route from downtown Rochester to the port. By 1916, the village of Charlotte was annexed into Rochester and a neighborhood was born. Houses on its residential streets range from large turn-of-the-century homes and small cottages alongside post World War II houses and apartment complexes. So far, the Biden administration has approved about $160 billion in loan relief for nearly 4.6 million people, including $28.6 billion for about 1.6 million people who were duped by their schools, according to the White House. "This institution falsified data, knowingly misled students and cheated borrowers into taking on mountains of debt without leading to promising career prospects at the end of their studies," Biden said. "We will never stop fighting to deliver relief to borrowers, hold bad actors accountable, and bring the promise of college to more Americans."

The keeper’s house and tower are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm and group tours by appointment. Even if your neighborhood is walkable, you may still have to drive to your place of work. Some neighborhoods are located where many can get to work in just a few minutes, while others are located such that most residents have a long and arduous commute.

Charlotte is a suburban neighborhood (based on population density) located in Rochester, New York. Gazebos spot the boardwalk, and large pavilions are scattered about, catering to small or large gatherings which are frequent throughout warm weather. Recently, the Roger Robach Community Center (the former bathhouse) has been renovated to feature a large banquet hall.

Modern times

Several restaurants, shops and bars surround the park; offering excellent food with both indoor and outdoor seating. Settling his traveling ice cream business on the corner of Lake and Beach Avenue (directly across from the park), in 1926 Arthur Abbott built this landmark of Rochester cuisine. Even on the colder days of summer, people will line up for a classic sundae. Since this premiere shop, Abbott’s has opened franchises in numerous upstate locations, one in Connecticut, two in Florida and even two in Japan. The decline and eventual dissolution of the park was probably due to several reasons.

The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse is located on the bank of the Genesee River south of the park and seemingly too far away from both the river and the lake to do any good. Constructed in 1822 by the federal government, it was intended to signal the entrance to the Genesee River so boats may find their way to the popular river port Carthage Landing, the site of Norton’s Falls. At the time of construction it was atop a small bluff and with the help of a V cut out of the surrounding trees, it did its job quite well. That is until piers surrounding the Genesee River outlet were built on the lake in 1829.

The Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society is:

To get there, take St. Paul Blvd to the public parking lot on Parkview Terrace. The eastern pier offers a less crowded environment and better views of the shores to the east. Rochester’s own electric trolley system was soon extended to the park, taking customers away from the railway. A 10 cent admission was then implemented at the park gate; although free admission was still given for rail customers. Crowds continued to flood in, reaching tens of thousands, while entrepreneurs surrounded the park with businesses.

The Great Depression hit the park hard, closing many attractions and surrounding businesses. Financial problems and changes in the rail industry made the park a less lucrative business for the New York Central Rail. Probably the greatest contributor to the amusement park’s decline was when the booming City of Rochester annexed the village and took control of the park in 1916. Rochester’s bustling industries and overtaxed water treatment facilities dumped excessive amounts of waste into the Genesee River, which led to a severe drop in water quality at the beach.

In fact, 14.2% of this neighborhood's residents have Puerto Rican ancestry and 1.6% have Ukrainian ancestry. The way a neighborhood looks and feels when you walk or drive around it, from its setting, its buildings, and its flavor, can make all the difference. This neighborhood has some really cool things about the way it looks and feels as revealed by NeighborhoodScout's exclusive research. This might include anything from the housing stock to the types of households living here to how people get around. Another favorite activity is to ride The Duchess, the original 1905 Dentzel carousel from the amusement park. This recently restored masterpiece is one of only 14 operating antique menageries in the country, and one of a few that still lies in its original location.

The Charlotte Community  Association, founded in 1962, ranks among the largest and oldest neighborhood groups in the city. Another attempt to establish ferry traffic between Rochester and Toronto was made with the launch of a fast ferry the Spirit of Ontario I which ran from 2004–2005. The fast ferry again spurred a round of investment in Charlotte and the port. The loan cancellation will provide about $6.1 billion worth of relief for students that were "knowingly misled" by the institution, President Joe Biden said in a statement. In conjunction with this exhibit, a book entitled Winning the Vote in Greece is available in the gift shop. Written by Maureen Whalen and Marie Poinan, the book features detailed information on each of the fourteen local suffragists from the Town of Greece & Charlotte.

Niche ranks thousands of neighborhoods based on key statistics from the U.S. Charlotte (/ʃɑːrˈlɒt/ shar-LOT) is a neighborhood in Rochester, in the U.S. state of New York, located along the western bank of the mouth of the Genesee River along the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

The exhibit tells the story of each of the fourteen women who are known to have participated in the suffrage movement, most of whom lived in the Village of Charlotte. The local Charlotte Political Equality Club was formed on November 15, 1892, at the farm of Jean Brooks Greenleaf. In 2018, the Greece Historical Society installed a historic marker with a grant from the Pomeroy Foundation at her farm on Greenleaf Road, now part of Lakeshore Country Club.

New York State had already passed universal suffrage on November 6, 1917, almost 3 years before the 19th amendment, but the citizens of Rochester voted against giving women the right to vote. There is a plethora of benefits in engaging with the Charlotte Community Association, INC. (CCA) for both community and the surrounding Rochester region. Each neighborhood has a different mix of occupations represented, and together these tell you about the neighborhood and help you understand if this neighborhood may fit your lifestyle.

Over the years, sediment built up around the piers, extending Charlotte Beach further into the lake and narrowing the mouth of the river. That build-up seemingly pushed the lighthouse further away from both bodies of water. In 1881 the lighthouse was decommissioned and the lantern and lens were moved to the west pier light. Today the Charlotte-Genesee Historical Society operates it as a museum and gift shop. Stroll through the Ontario Beach Park and catch a ride on the 1905 Dentzel Carousel, or stop to admire the beautiful gardens maintained by neighborhood volunteers. Chat with the fishermen on the pier to learn about the best catch of the day or sit on the beach and hear the voices of the children playing in the sand and the seagulls doing their thing.

Restaurants that line Lake Avenue, the neighborhoods main thoroughfare, include fine and casual dining. The first Abbot's Frozen Custard, a Rochester institution since 1902, is located across from Ontario Beach. Some restaurants have given new life to historic buildings, like Hose 22 Firehouse Grill. The loan cancellations will automaticaly provide relief to borrowers harmed by The Art Institutes, even for those who haven’t yet applied for borrower defense, and the Department of Education will start notifying eligible borrowers on Wednesday. It will also pause loans identified for forgiveness, so borrowers won’t face further demands for payment, and payments made to the Department of Education on related loans will be refunded.

The Charlotte Branch Library offers a small-town library atmosphere in the city. We’re located on a main thoroughfare, but are nestled into the heart of the residential Charlotte neighborhood. In addition to a well-balanced collection of current books, movies, music and games, the Charlotte Branch Library offers a lively assortment of programs. Children can enjoy regular story times and creative activities as well as special events and guest performers. Our adult book club meets monthly, as does our very popular local history series. A recent revival of the park, sparked by the arrival (and hindered by the subsequent failure) of Rochester’s Fast Ferry to Toronto, brought to it refurbished pathways, boardwalks and pavilions, a brand new port and several shops and eateries.

The ultimate guide to Viking cruise ships and itineraries

vikings cruise ship

Whether you prefer the action-packed ships of Royal Caribbean or MSC, or the smaller ships that can sail along narrower fjords, there will be a Norwegian fjords itinerary for you. If you want to explore modern Scandinavia while gaining access to some of the region’s best museums, such an itinerary is a perfect choice. Scandinavia—and Norway in particular—is an expensive place to travel around, so a cruise can make financial sense for those seeking an introduction to the region. For one price, you get your travel, accommodation, meals, and entertainment covered. Viking’s shore excursions offer an engaging way for inquisitive travellers to learn about other countries and cultures, led by expert guides who are passionate about their region and provide insights into the local way of life.

Fellow Passengers

Since its founding in 1997, the upscale cruise brand has carved out a niche catering to a certain type of thoughtful, inquisitive, generally older traveler looking to explore the world and learn a thing or two along the way. River ships originally put Viking on the map, and they're still at the core of the brand. A secondary pool area with an infinity pool is at the back of each of the ships. Some local initiatives protesting against cruise travel have also gathered momentum, so cruisers should be aware of these issues before setting foot ashore. Layered clothing accommodates the region's variable weather, while specialized gear might be necessary for specific excursions.

Itineraries This Ship Sails

That gives Viking 8,370 berths in the upscale ocean cruise market — more than competitors Oceania Cruises and Azamara combined. The small size of our elegant, 930-passenger ships gives you access to fascinating ports that larger ships simply cannot reach. Our ocean and world cruises traverse six continents and offer enriching cultural experiences. Viking has many inclusions on their river cruises, although not everything. On your trip, you'll get at least one shore excursion per port included in the fare, as well as bottled water, all meals plus wine and beer at lunch and dinner, as well as onboard programming and entertainment. On Viking river cruises, wines are included at lunch and dinner and are poured liberally.

During the day -- and anytime in the ship's World Cafe buffet -- more casual clothing such as shorts, jeans, T-shirts and capris are acceptable. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with tables for six and eight. Breakfast and lunch are buffets that are served during set times, although you can also order cooked-to-order items off the menu. An elevator runs between the ship's Main Deck and upper deck only; passengers with mobility issues should avoid cabins on the lower deck and may miss out on activities up on the Sun Deck. When the weather's nice, the sundeck on Viking Longships is also a central part of their layout.

The height of summer can be marred by heavy rainfall, while it’s possible to get sunburnt in the snow-covered conditions of February and March. The old city walls of Visby on Gotland island, a popular cruise port. For those interested in Viking history, look out for smaller ship itineraries featuring Visby on the wonderful island of Gotland. You'll have to pay for gratuities, as well as transfers if you did not book your flight through Viking. Bring or exchange small amounts of local currency to tip local guides and bus drivers.

Mingle with the locals as they relax in these pool-like thermal baths and watch them play chess in the water. This is one of many treasured activities on Viking’s 15-day Grand European Tour river voyage through four countries, with stops in riverside villages and cities including Cologne, Vienna and Amsterdam. For most travellers, the aurora borealis is the world’s most sought-after spectacle in the sky. On a clear night, these ethereal lights may appear over Norway as faint wisps of green or dramatically dancing ribbons in multiple colours. In Search of The Northern Lights is Viking’s 13-day ocean voyage in the Arctic, sailing between London (Tilbury) and Bergen via the Norwegian fjords.

How much does it cost to go on Viking Sea?

A den of serenity, it's one of our favorite places on these vessels. Every one of the line's 930-passenger ocean ships has a main restaurant (called, simply, The Restaurant) with rotating menus that include dishes that tie to the destination where the vessel is sailing. There also are casual buffet eateries called World Cafe on every vessel.

To Viking, that means a dress, skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse for women, and trousers and a collared shirt for men. During the day, there is no specific dress code, and people dress casually. If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you're bound for the top deck, a short-sleeve shirt and shorts are just fine. In keeping with Viking's focus on cultural immersion, lecturers often have expertise related to the places you'll be visiting on your sailing.

Passengers will also find finger sandwiches, scones and teas in the afternoon at the glass-topped Wintergarden lounge at the top of every vessel. What they are is eminently functional, with storage in all the right places, lots of outlets for charging your devices and lighting right where you need it. We love the reading lights built into the fabric headboards, which are in addition to the lamps on bedside tables. You won't have trouble seeing the pages of the Viking Daily activity newsletter while lying in a Viking cabin bed. In general, you'll find a lot of couples on Viking ships and some solo travelers. You'll also find the occasional multigenerational group — a retired couple traveling with their working-age adult children, for instance.

Viking Longships drift through this lush valley, past terraced vineyards, charming villages and eye-catching rock formations. At a centuries-old wine-growing estate, guests can cut grapes from the vine before stomping them by foot in a traditional stone trough. Portugal’s River of Gold cruise-tour offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local food and wine, including its famous Port.

You'll find Viking's ocean ships in other key cruise destinations as well, such as Alaska, the Caribbean and Panama Canal, Canada and New England, South America, Asia and Australia. Most Viking Longships are 443 feet long, the perfect length to fit into the locks on many of Europe's rivers. Viking has also built slightly shorter versions of the Longships measuring 262 feet, 361 feet or 410 feet in length specifically to sail on rivers where lock sizes or other navigational factors require a smaller vessel.

After 26 years in Europe, Viking knows the most enjoyable aspects of its popular destinations, from major cities to the countryside. Every itinerary has been honed to explore the most beautiful landscapes, stunning landmarks, and unusual customs and cuisines unique to each port of call. A mesmerising view at the perfect time of day, a natural phenomenon that must be seen to be appreciated, or a heart-pumping activity in a place rarely visited. Coffee stations and some snacks are usually available during the day. Room service is limited -- it's breakfast only and only available to passengers in the Explorer Suites.

Still, as is typical for cruise lines at the high end, Viking includes a lot in its base price. The latter is something relatively few lines roll into their base fares, and shore excursions can be expensive. This evening dress code is not enforced at the casual World Cafe eateries on Viking ocean ships, where passengers can go even more casual in the evenings. What Viking ships don't offer is a lot of onboard amusements aimed at families and younger travelers.

From redefining River Cruises, they swiftly moved on to redefine Ocean Cruising with their matching ships and child-free policies and now are moving into the smaller, but fast-growing market of expedition cruising. There is no physical difference between the Ocean-class ships, they are all the same size, design and capacity. However, the Viking Expedition ships are smaller at 30,150 GRT and carry only 378 passengers each. A good travel agent will quiz you about your particular interests, travel style and preferences, and steer you to the perfect cruise line, ship, itinerary and cabin for you. An agent can also help you if something goes wrong before, during or after your voyage.

In March 2019 Viking Sky became stranded off the coast of Norway. 460 of the passengers were rescued by helicopter, with the rest of the passengers staying on board until the ship reached Molde safely. It's not a line that offers megaships topped with every sort of amusement known to humans.

25+ Must-Have Cruise Packing Tips

items to pack for a cruise

I recently ditched my heels for comfortable black sneakers I pair with skirts, slacks and dresses. If your cute sneaks can stand up to touring by day but look good with your evening wear, you've just saved a ton of space in your suitcase. Not all of us are lucky enough to live an hour or two from a cruise port. Many cruisers have to fly or road trip to their departure port and need to pack for this travel as well.

Windproof Travel Umbrella

Cruise ship showers are notoriously cramped and often lack functional amenities. Cruise ship walls are typically magnetic, so you can use magnets to make your cabin more usable. Keep your daily newsletters, invitations and excursion tickets in order with magnetic clips affixed above the desk. While you're at it, download your cruise line, airline and pre-cruise hotel's app, as well as the Mobile Passport Control app to speed up the customs process. Also, remove all old cruise and airline tags and stickers from your luggage to avoid confusion.

Cruise packing tips from someone who’s been on more than 50 cruises

These are some ways to organize and add more storage to your cruise ship cabin. Don’t fly without locking your locking your luggage with a TSA approved lock. You can also lock valuable items like laptops and luxury bags in locked luggage to keep your items secure in your cruise cabin. If you’re going on a cruise, you’ll want to pack towel clips to keep your towels from blowing away with the sea breeze. If you’re packing for a Caribbean or Bahamas cruise, make sure to pack reef-friendly sunscreen and aloe vera for potential sunburns. Don’t pack dirty shoes straight into your luggage and next to your clothing.

For Caribbean cruises, a big beach bag or good size backpack is essential to pack towels, sunscreen and everything you need for cruise shore excursions. When I lived on a ship, I would be one of the first ashore and the last back onboard. Exploring new locales is one of the best parts of cruising. Carry a powerful battery bank with you like the Anker Portable Charger so your phone doesn’t die and you’re prepared for long adventures, or fun overnights, in ports of call. Avoid this unexpected expense if you can by bringing  your own first aid kit. Then,  add bandages and antibiotic ointment for attending to small surface wounds.

Gorgeous Dress

To protect yourself on excursions, carry cards in an RFID-blocking wallet. This one is slim, easily fits into a fanny pack or purse, and has room for a handful of cards. Before getting into what to pack, it’s important to know that this list is organized into categories. That makes it easier to consider other essentials before you drag out your suitcase. All your spending is done on your room keycard, which acts like a credit card linked to your onboard account. Space is tight in a cruise cabin, and a couple of empty suitcases taking up room can make it feel even more cramped.

Water-Resistant Backpack

items to pack for a cruise

Cover the sole of your favorite shoes as you pack them in your luggage. Consider packing silicone reusable straws if you’d rather not have the soggy paper straws. We used it on our last cruise when we got too much sun, and it was effective, non-sticky and moisturizing. Cruise lines provide basic toiletries such as shampoo and shower gel in your stateroom. The destinations you can explore with Royal Caribbean are in the hundreds and all over the world, so bring your passport with you.

If cruising in a cool climate, pack layers for the day if spending time outdoors. When cruising in the Caribbean, light clothing can be worn most of the time. A smart cruise packing hack that many travelers use these days is a placing a GPS luggage tracking device in all checked luggage. Small Bag or Tote Bag With EssentialsYou’ll want to get in on the action as soon as you set foot on your ship. There are experiences and activities you can start enjoying right away—from waterslides to hanging 10 on the FlowRider surf simulator.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite Circle Cardigan

If you’re trying to relax in a lounger, expect your towel to be whipping around in the wind. For instance, on a seven-day cruise, you really only need 3-4 outfits as you can wear the same thing twice. There’s still plenty to pack, but don’t let it be so much that you can’t handle your bags yourself. It just makes things much easier when you don’t have to lug around a couple of oversized, heavy bags. That said, one area that it’s a good idea to pack more is with medicines. A few protective items keep cruisers comfortable on board the ship and on land.

It’s much easier to prevent a sunburn than it is to deal with one. Have your pick of cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe, Australia and more here. This allows you to board with much less to carry to your room, which might be several decks from where you get on the ship.

Many guests wear "smart casual" for formal night; Royal Caribbean's website explains the dress code to help with packing for evening wear. We created Cruise Packing Tips to share our extensive knowledge on how to pack for a cruise. As seasoned cruisers who loves to pack just the right amount for each trip, we will help you get your cruise packing list down to a fine art. Many cruisers tend to overpack when it comes to clothes and shoes but sometimes forget about other necessities.

Just be sure to return it or you will be charged for missing towels. Also, make sure that you are using the beach towel and not just the regular towels you’ll find in the bathroom. If you’re going to the pool or the beach, you need a towel, right? The great news is that these are provided for free on a cruise. One thing to note is that the hair dryer usually isn’t in the cabin bathroom. Instead, you’ll often find it in the built-in vanity that’s in your room.

It’s only a few bucks and can keep you from feeling bad if the ocean picks up. After time at the beach or the pool, you don’t want to walk indoors flaunting what your mother gave you in a swimsuit. Be sure to bring along a cover up that you can slip over your outfit to add a little modesty. We like to call the day after the first day at sea “Lobster Day.” That’s because many people spent the first day getting too much sun and look like a bunch of lobsters walking around the ship.

Survivor recounts Costa Concordia cruise capsizing 10 years later

The passengers, whose infections were found through random testing, were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, according to the Port of San Francisco.

The Wreck of the Costa Concordia

But after eight years in the U.S. and then Italian court system, they lost their case. That includes ships operated by companies MSC Cruise ships and Costa, Fortune reported, some of which are docked near Rome's main port of Civitavecchia. Stefano Sarti, vice president of Legambiente Liguria, says the strategy is short-sighted. In addition to marring picturesque views, he asserts the parked ships cause environmental harm and make noise around the clock.

For Earth Day, a Photo Appreciation of Birds

"Every time you look at it, you think to the people there, and people that died, and to the two people they have not found." "I felt like (my daughters) were going to get trampled, and putting my arms around them and just holding them together and letting the sea of people go by us." Passengers struggled to escape in the darkness, clambering to get to the life boats. Alaska resident Nate Lukes was with his wife, Cary, and their four daughters aboard the ship and remembers the chaos that ensued as the ship started to sink. Ten years after the deadly Costa Concordia cruise line disaster in Italy, survivors still vividly remember scenes of chaos they say were like something straight out of the movie "Titanic."

But for the passengers on board and the residents who welcomed them ashore, the memories of that harrowing, freezing night remain vividly etched into their minds. Almost immediately questions were raised concerning the conduct of Schettino and other crew officers. In July 2013 four crew members and Costa Crociere’s crisis coordinator pled guilty to various charges, including manslaughter. He was charged with manslaughter as well as causing the wreck and abandoning ship. During the 19-month trial, prosecutors claimed that he was an “idiot,” while Schettino countered that his actions had saved lives and that he was being scapegoated.

In the months to come, salvage teams set up camp in the picturesque harbor to work on safely removing the ship, an operation that took more than two years to complete. Prosecutors blamed the delayed evacuation order and conflicting instructions given by crew for the chaos that ensued as passengers scrambled to get off the ship. The captain, Francesco Schettino, is serving a 16-year prison sentence for manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning a ship before all the passengers and crew had evacuated. GIGLIO, Italy (AP) — Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio.

Ten years ago the Costa Concordia ran aground off the Tuscan island of Giglio, killing 32 people and entwining the lives of others forever. "There was really a melee there is the best way to describe it," he told Cobiella. "It's very similar to the movie 'Titanic.' People were jumping onto the top of the lifeboats and pushing down women and children to try to get to them." "I think it’s the panic, the feeling of panic, is what’s carried through over 10 years," Ian Donoff, who was on the cruise with his wife Janice for their honeymoon, told Cobiella.

As CNN writes, the ship's rotting hull could break off as it is jostled about, which would cause lengthy delays. "The worst case scenario is that the ship falls apart during the first six hours as it's raised off the platform -- or that it breaks up somewhere off the coast of Corsica, which is where the Mediterranean's currents are the strongest," CNN continues. Some environmental groups, like Greenpeace, are also concerned that the Costa Concordia will leave a trail of leaky toxic waste in its wake, CNN adds. According to local news reports, the main reason the ships are parked near ports is to keep them in good working order so they can be quickly made ready for service, and to give the skeleton crews access to port services. Pablo Lazaro, a 66-year-old Spanish survivor who had been on the cruise with his wife and stepson, said the terror of that night - with people throwing themselves into the icy sea in a bid to survive - would never leave him.

Supreme Court hears case about L.A. man denied visa in part over his tattoos

Last January, the captain of the Italian mega-cruise ship Costa Concordia committed an apparent act of maritime bravado a few yards from the shore of a Tuscan island. The MS Costa Concordia, the Italian cruise ship that killed 32 people when it sank off the coast off Isola del Giglio in 2012, has just been sitting off the Tuscan coast ever since. This morning, though, the ship was successfully refloated, the Guardian reports. Environmentalists are relieved since the ship has been marring a marine sanctuary for more than two years, while local residents say they are looking forward to no longer having to see a giant wreck each time they look out to sea.

On that night, in an effort to entertain the passengers with a close-up view of the island, Capt. Francesco Schettino accidentally rammed the vessel into a rocky reef just a few dozen yards from shore. Work has begun to remove the tons of rocky reef embedded into the Concordia cruise ship's hull, off Giglio Island in Italy. Ortelli was later on hand when, in September 2013, the 115,000-ton, 300-meter (1,000-foot) long cruise ship was righted vertical off its seabed graveyard in an extraordinary feat of engineering. Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio. GIGLIO ISLAND, Italy (AFP) - Italy's Costa Concordia will set sail on its final voyage on Wednesday as survivors look on, two and a half years after the luxury cruise ship crashed and sank in a nighttime disaster that left 32 people dead. An investigation focused on shortcomings in the procedures followed by Costa Concordia's crew and the actions of her captain, Francesco Schettino, who left the ship prematurely. He left about 300 passengers on board the sinking vessel, most of whom were rescued by helicopter or motorboats in the area.

In July 2014 the Concordia—outfitted with a number of steel containers serving as flotation devices—was towed to Genoa, Italy, where it was dismantled for scrap. Evidence introduced in Schettino’s trial suggests that the safety of his passengers and crew wasn’t his number one priority as he assessed the damage to the Concordia. Italy had already banned cruise ships from docking in St Mark's Square but has now diverted all to the city's industrial port in Marghera. The doomed ship struck rocks just off the Mediterranean island on the night of January 13 with 4,229 people from 70 countries on board, just as many passengers were sitting down for supper on the first night of their cruise. Surviving passengers who have returned to Tuscany's Giglio island will gather with locals and holidaymakers to bid a final farewell to the once-magnificent cruise ship. The Costa Concordia was owned by Costa Crociere, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & PLC.

Costa Concordia disaster, the capsizing of an Italian cruise ship on January 13, 2012, after it struck rocks off the coast of Giglio Island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Several of the ship’s crew, notably Capt. Francesco Schettino, were charged with various crimes. The sad anniversary comes as the cruise industry, shut down in much of the world for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, is once again in the spotlight because of COVID-19 outbreaks that threaten passenger safety. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control last month warned people across-the-board not to go on cruises, regardless of their vaccination status, because of the risks of infection.

In addition, he noted the steering error by the helmsman, but a maritime expert testified that regardless of the mistake, the collision was unavoidable. In February 2015 Schettino was convicted on all charges and sentenced to more than 16 years in prison. He appealed the verdict, but it was upheld in May 2017; Schettino began serving his sentence shortly thereafter. GIGLIO, Italy — Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio. Whether or not Captain Francesco Schettino was trying to impress his girlfriend is debatable. The wreck was not the fault of unexpected weather or ship malfunction—it was a disaster caused entirely by a series of human errors.

When launched in 2005, it was Italy’s largest cruise ship, measuring 951 feet (290 metres) long with a passenger capacity of 3,780; by comparison, the Titanic was 882.5 feet (269 metres) long and could accommodate up to 2,435 passengers. It featured four swimming pools, a casino, and reportedly the largest spa on a ship. In July 2006 the vessel undertook its maiden voyage, a seven-day cruise of the Mediterranean Sea, with stops in Italy, France, and Spain.

Yes, it’s possible to disembark from a cruise ship to explore a destination for a few days and then rejoin the ship at its next port of call. This arrangement, often referred to as a “port visit” or “shore excursion,” requires careful planning and coordination with the cruise line. That includes a business center with meeting rooms, 14 offices, and a business library for all Zoom call needs. Several cruise lines already booking short (3- to 7-night sails) in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, California coast or Mexico have also entered the world-cruise market.

This cruise also brings you to 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and some of the world's greatest cities as well as more remote locales, offering striking contrasts in architecture, fashion, music, culture and cuisine. Never mind the moniker, a world cruise may visit several continents but not circumnavigate the globe. Cruise lines usually designate one ship (a few offer two) to sail about 100 days or longer — some even sail more than 200 days — without repeating ports.

But the Regent Suite is the most expensive world cruise ever, at almost $1.7 million per couple. Hurtigruten’s world cruise starts at $42,174 per person for a 93-night itinerary, making for a per-night cost of $453 per person. This unique itinerary sails from the Arctic to the Antarctic, via both coasts of North America and the west coast of South America. The longest world cruise offered by Princess Cruises starts at $23,659 per person for 116 nights, meaning a per-night cost of $204. Departing Florida it travels the Panama Canal to West Coast USA, Australasia, Asia and the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic.

A world cruise is a safe, easy and exhilarating way to score a global adventure beyond compare. Finally, experience another natural marvel — the other-worldly geothermal seawater at The Blue Lagoon in Iceland before stopping in New York and Perfect Day at CocoCay on your way back to Miami. Then your journey continues to even more destinations known for their storied history — like the fortified walls of Split, Croatia and the cobblestoned streets of Barcelona, Cannes and Provence. Plus, go back in time as you wander through the Colosseum in Rome and get lost in the Venetian-style streets of Corfu. Take in the largest Art Deco sculpture in the world, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Behold the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazú Falls near Buenos Aires.

It might seem a long way away, but inside cabins and some suites are already waitlisted for the sailing. The 2,550-passenger MSC Magnifica is the home base for the 116-night journey. The itinerary features port calls at 50 destinations across 21 countries in the Mediterranean, South America, the South Pacific, Australia and Asia. Among the cities you'll explore are Puerto Madryn, Argentina; Rio de Janeiro; Casablanca, Morocco; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Phuket, Thailand; Broome, Australia; and Auckland. Holland America's 124-day Grand World Voyage on the 1,964-passenger Zuiderdam cruises round-trip from Fort Lauderdale. The enticing itinerary ventures far from Florida to must-visit cities such as Tokyo, Mumbai, Singapore and Istanbul.

1 year cruise around the world cost

The around-the-world cruise is designed to visit far-flung and more remote ports, often out of season, to avoid the touristy crowds. It's actually a world cruise, the nirvana of many ocean-going devotees. As a bonus, most of these around-the-world voyages include enviable perks, like pre-cruise hotel stays, alcohol, shipboard credit, exclusive-access shore excursions — and, yes, laundry service.

Imagine the joys of traveling seamlessly from one bucket list country to another without packing and unpacking, switching hotels, boarding countless flights or even doing laundry. After all, when people cruise they are on vacation and likely willing to spend more freely than they would normally. By limiting the amount spent on board, you can cut thousands off this estimated total.

The ship's size provides an intimate experience and allows it to call on small towns bigger ships can't access. The final leg of the Ultimate World Cruise is an immersive cultural exploration starting in the Med heading north. Discover Barcelona’s brilliant architecture, including Gaudi’s Sagrada Família. Savor flavors across continents — like a dinner of tagine and mint tea in Morocco. These fees vary, but in general, expect about $100-$200 per person for a seven-day cruise. Just know that you’ll definitely need to open your wallet to live full-time in paradise.

Fares start at $66,000 for this 2024 sailing, which currently has waitlist availability. Royal Caribbean pulls out all the stops — and there are more than 150 of them — on this 274-night cruise to all seven continents. Travelers who don't want to commit to the entire cruise can book shorter segments.

Get ready to see the world in a whole new light — introducing the Ultimate World Cruise onboard Serenade of the Seas®. You can spend 274 nights bonding with like-minded explorers over global discoveries across all seven continents. Or pick a corner of the globe and explore every inch of it on one of four Ultimate World Cruise℠ segments — each an immersive voyage of 60+ nights. Connect with countless distinct cultures, soak up the most spectacular landscapes on Earth, and marvel at World Wonders that showcase mankind’s boundless imagination. Again, just like booking any cruise, the choice of stateroom will determine how much you have to pay.

If the time commitment isn’t an issue and you see the value for the cost, it’s worth it to you… and that’s what matters most. Since we’re on the topic, you may be wondering what’s usually included in the base fare on a world cruise. It might be a pleasant surprise to learn that pretty much all world cruises include more in the fare than you’d get taking a regular cruise with the same company. Plus, these smaller ships can also visit more remote ports of call that can not accommodate larger vessels.

Olivia's 50th Anniversary Caribbean All-Lesbian Cruise 2023 Olivia

Olivia cruisers took karaoke extremely seriously, with at least one professional singer in the room and comedians Julie Goldberg and Mimi Gonzalez as the celebrity MC's. Singing cheesy love songs with all the pronouns appropriately changed was just another of the small joys of being in an all gay-girls group. We heard "Redneck Woman" and "Goodbye Earl" at least once each night -- by night three, we groaned every time we heard the opening notes. Maebh and I wowed the crowd, or ourselves at least, with a duet of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" and joined forces with friends for Destiny's Child's "Stronger."

ANNIVERSARY PARTIES & EVENTS

If you’re Gen Y, a millennial, or even at the tail end of Gen X, then you’re most definitely part of Gen-O! Meet up, connect and have fun with all Olivians age 40 and under. The area immediately surrounding the port doesn't offer much more excitement than, say, San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf or Honolulu's Waikiki. We wandered a bit before sitting down to dinner at a charming but completely empty Dutch restaurant called de Suike.

Finding love, lust, and everything in between

As Cris Williamson, a founding member who still performs with Olivia, remembers, at the time “lesbians were losing their jobs, their children, their incomes”. "Love Olivia, best trips ever!!!! It will not disappoint, if you have never been, plan your trip soon, you will love it." At Olivia, we are committed to providing amazing vacation experiences for all guests with disabilities and/or specific needs. We celebrate our elders by creating special events so that you can connect, share stories and forge new friendships.

Olivia always charters the entire ship, resort, riverboat or land tour so that you can be free to be authentically you while on vacation. "I love the trips with Olivia. The staff is outstanding. I love the cruises and we’ll as the resorts. I have met so many wonderful people that I consider family." "We love Olivia. I met my wife on an Olivia cruise in 2006. We've done about 16 trips with Olivia and plan to do more in the future. Thank you for providing a fun and safe environment for us to be with family and meet new friends."

The reception to a lesbian cruise company in the 1990s was mixed, to say the least. Initially, the word “lesbian” wasn’t even used in Olivia’s branding. “We had an understanding of how careful we needed to be to protect the women that were part of us,” says Dlugacz. For years, correspondence was delivered in plain brown wrappers. Many women traveling on Olivia’s cruises weren’t out at home. Finding a liner to host hundreds of lesbians was another challenge.

If you only have a day in Curacao, this is a nice, easily accessible place to eat, drink and swim during the day, and party in the evening when the D.J.'s show up. It’s home to some of the Caribbean’s highest viewpoints, spectacularly positioned among verdant tropical foliage. And the island has got the hands-down coolest attraction in the region—an ice museum. Take a stroll along and then past the old city walls and explore the colorful cobblestone streets of old San Juan—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Site within the U.S. Taste your way through the city’s extraordinary culinary scene, immerse yourself in its colorful history, or just pull up at a beach and grab a local rum cocktail. Explore one of many excursions like El Yunque National Rainforest.

‘I stood there with my mouth open. It was a utopia’: 50 years of Olivia, the lesbian cruise company

"The resort was great, staff went above & beyond. Olivia group is always helpful & pleasant. We spoke spoke with Judy a few times & she is a wonderful, down to earth woman. We are so happy we took the jump to Olivia vacations." We had three days entirely at sea, one at the beginning of the trip and two at the very end. Three full days at sea on a seven-day trip sounded like a lot ... There were traditional cruise-ship offerings like steel drumming and ballroom dancing, an always-bumping casino and a beautiful spa -- and then some less-conventional activities like erotic writing workshops. In early 2013, Olivia celebrated its 40-year anniversary with two weeklong Caribbean cruises, honoring the company's legacy with performances by some of the record label's original artists.

In the decades since, Olivia Travel has built up a loyal customer base, particularly among professional women in their 30s and older. “Olivia, as a brand, as a company, is so strongly about the female experience,” says Dlugacz. “So, however you feel you fit into that, you belong.” The company’s trips have included countries where LGBTQ+ people are criminalized or face legal barriers – including Russia, Tanzania, and Kenya – allowing guests to go to places where they might not have gone alone.

The fitness facilities were impressive, with a good range of cardio and weight equipment in a spacious room with panoramic views. I'd be much more inspired to work out at home if my gym was this beautiful. I noticed the gym offered a few group fitness classes throughout the week, too, though we didn't attend any. Were I to do my entire week over, I definitely would have taken advantage of the Greenhouse Spa and Salon -- particularly the hydrotherapy pool, which I always walked past with envy but never justified coughing up the money to actually try. It was essentially a big saltwater Jacuzzi in the center of the spa facility. They also offered a variety of massages, facials, hair and nail treatments.

We charter entire ships, resorts, and excursions so you can feel completely free to be you. We took the day as an opportunity to soak up the sunshine among our fellow travelers, no itinerary needed, and know we were in a for a week of girls-only good times. No matter how many cruises you've been on, there's always something really magical about that first look across the blue sea and sky, and the feeling that you've actually arrived in the middle of nowhere -- except surrounded by lesbians, of course. The beaches there look exactly like you'd expect a Caribbean postcard to look, with water so clear that you can see the scales of the fish swimming around your ankles. If you really feel like indulging, consider renting a cabana or beach villa, though there are plenty of shady spots to sit in the sand for free along with the proletariat.

Then the boat sped off to a reef near the other end of the island. The boat had a section in front that was like a wide, flat lounge chair -- essentially a thick piece of mesh separating us from the water -- where we could relax and sunbathe on the trip. After we anchored, everyone was doled out flippers, masks, snorkels and life vests. I tried to jump in without my life vest and got scolded again. It was a little disappointing to have to wear a life vest the whole time, but we still got a great, up-close look at coral and rainbow-colored tropical fish. "It’s the best way to enjoy a great holiday. Meet different people from around the world. Olivia has an excellent staff who work with lots of love. Those of us who travel alone feel very comfortable and enjoy the fullest. Thanks for existing Olivia travel."

We anchored early in the morning and took tenders to the island in groups of 50 or so, as the island is too small to have an actual port. We were greeted by a couple of sexy blond pirate girls who posed for photos as we approached the "village" of Half Moon Cay -- a small, faux-colonial array of buildings, including souvenir shops, a post office, a wedding chapel and a bar. It was the first of several times that week I would hear Cat Stevens' "Wild World" played on steel drums.

We ate most meals from the Lido Deck buffet, as we found the Manhattan Dining Room to be unremarkable. Nieuw Amsterdam also features three reservations-only restaurants that offer table service dinners for an extra fee, but Maebh and I agreed that you ultimately paid more for the quiet atmosphere and the service than for better-quality food. The Pinnacle Grill, a steak and seafood restaurant, was our favorite of the three. We ordered Caprese salads, which were excellent, followed by mushroom ravioli, which was a little too heavy, but not bad. What made the meal really memorable was the sunset over the ocean right outside our window, enhanced by generous wine flights (for which we paid extra).
